Toilets of the World

£7.00

A few years ago, two enthusiastic Canadian girls, Sian James and Morna Gregory, approached us looking for sponsorship: they wanted to travel the world photographing curious loos, then publish a book of the results.

We rather envied them as we thought it a capital idea. Unfortunately, few others thought the same and they struggled to find additional financial support. Crapper & Co. helped them as much as we could, but at the time our sponsorship account was heavily over-subscribed.

Eventually they were able to journey around Britain and Europe touring some historic, some grand, some grisly and some weird lavatories. The quality of their photographs and prose proved impressive; funding from other firms became more forthcoming and T.C & Co. helped a little more. Then they set sail for the rest of the world. The result is an extraordinary book of the glorious and the ghastly; hundreds of photographs of some of the most remarkable loos in the world. Within its pages lie magnificent urinals in Scotland; ultra-modern stainless steel loos in Germany; hand-decorated ‘rest-rooms’ in America; snow-covered out-houses in Canada; classic corrugated-iron ‘longdrops’ in Australia; ‘half-caste’ bowls in India (a compromise between Western and Eastern preferences); Victorian Crappers in Great Britain; a solid-gold W.C. pan in Hong Kong; moribund lavatories in Africa (almost engulfed by the encroaching sand-dunes) and deliberately terrifying public conveniences in Japan.
And much, much, more.

After the successful launch of the book, our managing director was astonished and humbled when told by a relative of one of the authors that it was our moral support (rather than financial) that helped to save the project in its early days. We wish only that we had done more!

In summary: a book that should be in everyone’s smallest room and ideal even for the briefest of visits.

Delivery

Here at Thomas Crapper we are proud to offer a wide range of products with different weights and sizes. To ensure that your order is delivered as efficiently as possible we have partnered with several national parcel and pallet carriers who offer a range of delivery options.

How much will my delivery cost?

How much you pay for the delivery of your order will usually depend upon the order value. The price you will pay for delivery will be calculated and displayed during the checkout process once the delivery address details have been entered.

In general terms the delivery service and charges are shown in the table below. Delivery times are quoted from date of despatch, which will typically be 5-7 working days from receipt of order:

Order value Delivery charge Typical delivery time
£0.99 – £50.00 £7.50 1- 2 days
£50.01 – £300.00 £20.00 2 – 3 days
£300.01 – £500.00 £35.00 2- 3 days
£500.01 plus £55.00 2- 5 days

We understand that the cost of delivery is an important factor in making your decision. The table above provides an indication of delivery charges for ‘example’ orders being delivered to an address in mainland England, Wales and some areas of Scotland.

Please Note: The delivery time quoted in this table refers to the number of days following dispatch. We normally aim to dispatch goods within 5-7 working days from receipt of order.

How will my order be delivered?

Orders are delivered either as parcels or on pallets, depending upon the products ordered.

Parcels are normally delivered to door. Parcel delivery drivers may leave parcels with a neighbour, in a safe place if no-one is available to take delivery at the specified address.

Pallets are normally used for large, heavy or fragile items and when the number of items on an order makes delivery more efficient via a pallet service.

Pallet deliveries are made to an accessible kerbside location on firm ground near to the delivery address.
